LawNet: 35 Years of Evolution and Innovation
Dear valued LawNet subscriber,
LawNet has been the reliable legal research portal for Singapore law for 35 years. It provides practitioners access to case law, law books and journals, and has recently also expanded to include other reference materials such as contract and pleading precedents, as well as information on sentencing and damages for personal injury. LawNet has been upgraded periodically over the years. There are plans to integrate the entire library of law books published by Academy Publishing into LawNet, to provide a seamless research experience.
In line with SAL’s mission to provide an advanced legal research portal on Singapore law to our practitioners, enhancements to LawNet have been ongoing. Some of you may have tried out the beta site, LawNet.com, which was launched last September. At TechLaw.Fest 2025, we released an upgraded and more intuitive user experience. We enhanced search capabilities, including support for natural language queries.
Our first foray into generative AI took place last year, with the release of AI case summaries for unreported judgments. Summaries have now been generated for tribunal decisions as well, and they will be made available on LawNet later this year. We have also been developing new generative AI features to enhance the research experience. Users are now able to ask questions, and responses will be generated. When looking up statutes, relevant cases and other references will be presented along with an AI-generated overview. We announced these features at TechLaw.Fest 2025 and will be progressively releasing them over the next half-year.
These new features are introduced as part of the basic subscription to LawNet with no additional charges, to enable all our users to benefit from advances in technology. As these are new features that rely on fast developing technology, we rely on users’ feedback to continually improve them. Please migrate to the new portal and provide us with your feedback.
Also at TechLaw.Fest, we announced our content partnership with LexisNexis, Thomson Reuters, vLex, and Legora. The Singapore Law Reports (“SLRs”) will soon be available on their platforms to extend their reach overseas. It is a part of SAL’s mandate to promote the use and citation of Singapore law. The partnership also provides law firms with the option of an integrated, multi-jurisdictional research experience that includes Singapore case law.
These partnerships complement LawNet. LawNet will continue to co-exist with our partners’ platforms. We are committed to continuing to enhance and keep LawNet the most accessible and authoritative platform for Singapore legal research.
Thank you for being part of LawNet’s journey. As we enter this next chapter, we look forward to continuing working with you to shape the future of the profession.
