Singapore, Thursday, 11 September 2025 – The Singapore Academy of Law (SAL) announced two major initiatives that reinforce Singapore’s position as a global leader in legal innovation:
- Its strategic partnerships with global legal content providers with LexisNexis, Thomson Reuters, vLex and Legora, to expand the global accessibility and visibility of Singapore law; and
- The launch of LawNet 4.0, an AI-powered legal research platform built to serve the evolving needs of legal professionals in Singapore, continuing its 35-year legacy as a trusted and indispensable platform.
Bringing Singapore Law to the Global Stage through Strategic Partnerships
From 1 October 2025, SAL’s official agreements with LexisNexis, Thomson Reuters, vLex and Legora will provide global access to a comprehensive collection of Singapore judgments, including the official law report series, the Singapore Law Reports. This gives legal researchers seamless access to Singapore Law Reports when using these global legal platforms.
In addition, SAL is partnering with Legora to integrate SAL’s database of contract precedents on the Legora platform. This will enable SAL to draw on AI-assisted contract drafting and review for our Singapore legal community.
Mr Yeong Zee Kin, Chief Executive of SAL, said, “I am excited with these partnerships. They are significant steps in advancing our mission to promote Singapore law globally. It enables a seamless research experience that integrates both Singapore case law and international legal content on world-class platforms.”
Mr Gaythri Raman, Managing Director, LexisNexis Southeast Asia & India said, “We are thrilled to form a strategic alliance with the Singapore Academy of Law in integrating the Singapore Law Reports into our comprehensive LexisNexis solutions. This collaboration marks a significant milestone in our commitment to advancing legal practice in Singapore. By providing unparalleled access to up-to-date legal insights and resources, we are empowering legal professionals to make informed decisions and drive innovation across the industry. Together with SAL, we are setting a new benchmark for excellence and professional development in Singapore’s legal landscape.”
Mr Rob Head, Senior Director of Legal Content Solutions, Asia and Emerging Markets at Thomson Reuters, said, “Our partnership with the Singapore Academy of Law represents a pivotal moment for legal research in the region. By combining Thomson Reuters’ comprehensive coverage of Authorised Law reports across four major jurisdictions with SAL’s deep local expertise, we are delivering unparalleled access to trusted, authoritative content and cutting-edge technology. Together, we are setting a new standard for legal research — one that is faster, more reliable, and seamlessly connected — empowering legal professionals in Singapore and around the world to navigate complex decisions with confidence and stay ahead in our rapidly evolving profession.”
“vLex’s deep integration of comprehensive legal data and country-specific AI workflows engineered for Singapore sets new standards for how legal professionals can transform complex legal work with precision. Every workflow keeps practitioners close to what matters most — the law. This partnership with SAL means Singapore practitioners can now access this capability with both local Singapore and international law seamlessly integrated in one platform,” said Mr Daniel Hobson, Head of APAC, vLex.
Ms Gabrielle Persson, VP of content and partnerships at Legora said, “We are proud to be a partner of choice for SAL, one of the largest and most important content providers. This partnership will bring revolutionary capabilities and value, with Lawyers, in-house counsels, and legal professionals gaining direct access to SAL’s authoritative legal sources without leaving the Legora platform. By integrating a digital, AI-driven ecosystem, this partnership will be a key enabler of international knowledge exchange and collaboration.”
Enhancing Efficiency for Lawyers with the Latest LawNet 4.0 Features
To keep pace with an increasingly digital-first world and evolving expectations of legal work, SAL’s LawNet 4.0 marks the next phase in the platform’s evolution. Informed by extensive user feedback, it features a more intuitive, efficient and user-centric research experience — tailored to the ever-changing needs of the legal profession.
Key new features of LawNet 4.0 include:
- LawNet AI search: Developed in collaboration with IMDA, this AI-powered search engine enabled by the latest release of GPT-Legal Q&A model is tuned for contract law. It enhances legal research efficiency by allowing lawyers to pose questions and receive AI-generated responses, supported by a list of relevant sources drawn from Singapore case law and legislation. Designed to complement traditional keyword search, it offers a more intuitive and responsive research experience with future expansions planned across additional legal domains.
- Enhanced search experience: LawNet users can expect response times up to 10 times faster, along with improved result relevance. As part of the search algorithm enhancement, it can also process natural language queries.
- New Legislation module: LawNet users can now view statutory provisions and see relevant cases alongside, beginning with the Companies Act.
Mr Yeong said, “The new features that we are launching today will be available to all LawNet subscribers. This demonstrates our commitment to ensuring that legal research remains affordable and accessible with quality legal research content — a promise we have upheld for 35 years since LawNet’s inception. We will leverage AI and foster strategic partnerships to ensure LawNet remains as the bedrock of quality legal research in Singapore law. Our partnership with IMDA has enabled us to transform how legal research is conducted. And this is important to us. This aligns with SAL’s mission to equip future-ready legal professionals.
“We have also developed a proof of concept for an agentic AGM demonstrator in partnership with IMDA, that intelligently manages the entire process of planning and executing Annual General Meetings. This initiative explores new applications of agentic AI to streamline routine processes, enhance compliance, and transform how corporate governance is carried out,” he added.
Dr Ong Chen Hui, Assistant Chief Executive, BizTech Group, Infocomm Media Development Authority said “IMDA’s launch of GPT-Legal Q&A powered search with SAL is a great showcase of using AI well to serve professional purpose. By significantly reducing the time and effort required for legal research, we are freeing up time for law practitioners to devote more attention to critical analysis and strategic counsel for their clients. Our agentic AGM demonstrator is designed with corporate secretarial professionals in mind to give them confidence that meetings run efficiently and in line with compliance requirements. The demonstrator is a tangible example of how AI can address real-world challenges and elevate the way corporate governance is delivered.”
