ECC-SAL International Mooting Competition
Jointly organised by members of Essex Court Chambers (ECC) and the Singapore Academy of Law (SAL) since 2012, the ECC-SAL International Mooting Competition provides a prestigious platform for emerging legal talent to hone their advocacy skills and gain invaluable international exposure.
Held in the Singapore Supreme Court, the competition offers young advocates a realistic courtroom experience. Mooters will have the opportunity to argue before a distinguished panel of judges, including senior lawyers, academics, Senior Counsel, and, for the final round, High Court Judges and QCs.
In addition to the competitive rounds, a networking dinner is organised, giving mooters the chance to mingle, interact, and build valuable connections within the legal community.
The winning team will have the benefit of an all-expense-paid two-week internship with Essex Court Chambers in London. Awards will also be given for Best Speaker, Best Memorandum, and Best International Team.
Criteria
Lawyers and legal service officers who have qualified for practice for no more than 3 years as of the participating year, and who are not practising in England & Wales.
Teams may comprise mooters from the same or different law firms and organisations, with each participating firm or organisation asked to submit no more than 2 teams.
A reserve list of teams will be compiled in the event that more than 2 teams apply from the same organisation.
The organisers will consider all relevant circumstances in each jurisdiction when interpreting the eligibility criteria, and the organising committee reserves the right to exercise discretion for its decisions.
The Competition is typically held in the first week of January. More information about the 2026 iteration will be made available in August 2025.
