Launched to address the evolving needs of legal professionals in the Asia-Pacific region, the SAL-INSEAD Legal Leadership and Strategy Programme is designed to empower law firm partners, general counsel, and senior legal officers with the skills needed to lead effectively in a dynamic global landscape.

Tailored to professionals with profit-and-loss (P&L) responsibilities or those preparing to take on such roles, this programme combines INSEAD’s world-class management expertise with the Singapore Academy of Law’s deep insights into regional legal challenges.

Through an intensive curriculum, participants will refine their leadership and strategy capabilities, explore solutions to industry challenges such as cost pressures, talent retention, and competition, and gain the tools to navigate the shift toward sustainable, agile legal practices.

This programme equips legal leaders to thrive amidst economic transformation and globalisation, ensuring they remain at the forefront of innovation and growth in the legal profession.

Leadership Programme

Programme Overview

This two-day programme is designed to equip legal leaders with the skills to navigate an increasingly competitive and disrupted environment. It focuses on two core themes:

Leading Organisations

  • Leadership Challenges & Transitions
    Explore leadership roles, develop adaptability, and master the psychology of power in leadership. Build positive workplace cultures, nurture junior talent (e.g., Gen Z), and foster psychological safety.
  • Leading Organisational Change
    Navigate the challenges of change using real-world cases and a Power & Influence simulation. Learn to address the psychology of change, understand organisational politics, and drive transformation effectively.

Leading Self & Teams

  • Influence Without Authority
    Develop strategies to persuade and inspire others through trust-building and emotional intelligence. Learn ethical influence tactics, effective communication, and how to empower teams.
  • Team Dynamics and Decision-Making
    Discover strategies to optimise group performance, minimise conflict, and align individual and team objectives. A hands-on team decision-making exercise will highlight collaborative best practices.

Learning Model

The programme incorporates case studies, lectures, group discussions, and real-world scenarios to help participants address the unique challenges faced by professional service firms, including law firms. Participants are encouraged to complete 5-6 hours of pre-programme reading to maximise their learning experience.

Formulating and Executing Strategy

  • Strategic Thinking and Growth Strategy for Legal Professionals
    Develop strategic thinking skills, explore tools and frameworks for competitive advantage, and address talent management challenges.
  • Strategy Execution for Legal Professionals
    Learn systematic approaches and tools for effective strategy execution and organizational change.

Powering Strategy

  • Effective Corporate Governance
    Understand board-level governance, ethical behavior, and accountability through case studies, including a VR-based scenario on strategic decision-making.
  • Strategic Partnerships in the Legal Industry
    Learn to build, manage, and resolve challenges in partnerships to drive growth, enter new markets, and enhance collaboration.

Pre-Programme Reading Commitment (~2 hours)

This provides practical insights into real-world issues faced by leaders in professional service firms.

Participants will be awarded a certificate of completion.

Participants who wish to obtain CPD Points must comply strictly with the Attendance Policy set out in the CPD Guidelines. For this activity, participants are reminded to sign in on arrival and sign out at the conclusion of each day of the event in the manner required by the organiser. Participants must not be absent from each day of the event for more than 15 minutes. Participants who attend Day 1 and comply strictly with the Attendance Policy on that day may obtain 8 Public CPD Points. Participants who attend Day 2 and comply strictly with the Attendance Policy on that day may obtain 7.5 Public CPD Points.  Participants who do not comply with the Attendance Policy on any particular day of the event will not be able to obtain CPD Points for that day.
