Remembering Dr Gopalan Raman (1938 – 2020)
We are saddened to learn of the passing of Dr G Raman and we extend our deepest condolences to his family. For many years, he served on the SAL Legal Heritage Committee and we have benefited much from his contributions to our heritage programmes. We had the privilege of recording Dr Raman’s oral history interview a few years ago. His vivid recollection of what he witnessed and experienced during his years of service in the courts and legal practice is an invaluable record to our legal history. These days, we are constantly reminded of the need for resilience and fortitude in the face of Covid-19. For veteran lawyers Mr TPB Menon and Mr Sat Pal Khattar, it did not take a global pandemic to turn their lives upside down. At an age when most of their peers were focused on their studies, they had to shoulder the added responsibility of being head of their households while grappling with the demands of law school.
