On The Wild Side
There may have been a childhood ambition to be vets but somehow law school took precedence. Yet the call to defend the voiceless and those with no safety nets was so strong that they decided to get their hands dirty and go through huge financial sacrifices to serve on the wild side. Meet SAL members Mr Ignatius Hwang, Ms Lee Chuen Ling, Ms Noelle Seet and Mr Goh Jia Jie, who are passionate about improving animal welfare.

In our oral history programme, we have the privilege of speaking to some of the best trial lawyers in Singapore. When asked to recall their most memorable cases, it is often not surprising to hear that these are not their headline trials but occasions where they manage to uncover a gem of evidence that turned the tide in their favour. In Their Fathers’ Footsteps
Davinder Singh SC, Subhas Anandan, Jeffrey Chan SC and Peter Low are well known in legal circles and their work has been widely publicised in the news. But to Hanspreet and Jaspreet Singh, Sujesh Anandan, Jacqueline and Jason Chan SC, and Christine and Elaine Low, these legal luminaries are just loving fathers and even best friends who have found the time to nurture and mentor them, despite their extremely busy schedules. This second generation has followed their fathers’ footsteps into the legal profession, with some of them working directly under their fathers in the same firm. In the lead up to Father’s Day this weekend, we are privileged to hear their stories of the special bonds they share with their fathers and how they have been inspired to carry the torch for the legal service.
