EQUIPPING THE PROFESSION FOR AN AI-AUGMENTED FUTURE
“… what is certain is that generative AI can help our younger colleagues execute certain routine tasks more efficiently and at higher quality, and it can therefore make legal work more sustainable. Hence, we should encourage equipping the profession with the skills to enable the widespread, informed and effective use of generative AI.”
~ Chief Justice Sundaresh Menon, Opening Address at the Legal Profession Symposium 2025
Generative AI is reshaping the legal profession by accelerating legal research, contract drafting, and document review, enabling lawyers to deliver work more efficiently while focusing on higher‑value advisory and advocacy tasks. It is therefore essential to equip legal professionals with the skills to use these tools responsibly, understand their limitations, and apply sound judgment.
AIxLegal by SAL is the Singapore Academy of Law’s initiative to build practical AI capability across the legal profession. Supported by IMDA, it brings together structured training, an AI Fluency Framework and practical resources to support legal professionals from foundational AI fluency to practice-specific applications.
