~ Peter Neda

The role of the in-house counsel has evolved from compliance and risk manager to strategic business partner and value creator. Globalisation and technological advancements have elevated their role, placing them at the heart of board-level decision-making. No longer confined to reacting to disputes, in-house counsel are now integral to business strategy, contributing to growth and innovation. They are also expected to manage an increasingly complex portfolio, including AI and data governance, cybersecurity, ESG and cost management.

With this in mind, SAL is committed to supporting its in-house counsel members. Through the In-house Counsel Certification Programme (IHCP), participants can identify and address skills gaps by leveraging a curated suite of training opportunities to strengthen both their technical knowledge and skills competencies, enabling them  to perform their roles with greater impact and effectiveness.

What does the certification mean for me?

Achieving full certification from SAL signals to current and prospective employers your commitment to continuous professional development and your ability to contributing meaningful value to legal teams, business units and external stakeholders.

Upon completing any course from the curated list, you will receive a certificate of participation. Upon obtaining any 6 of these certificates, submit them to SAL to be awarded with the full certification by SAL.

Learn at your own pace and set your own goals – it’s that simple.

All certificates are managed by Accredify, enabling you to share and verify your credentials digitally with current and prospective employers, and showcase them on professional platforms such as LinkedIn.

SAL’s in-house counsel members can look forward to structured training opportunities covering technical knowledge and skills competencies, with selected courses mapped to SAL’s LIFTED competency framework. These courses have been designed to address the evolving needs of in-house counsel.

Through engaging facilitation and activities, participants benefit from a supportive environment, where they can learn from faculty and peers, and confidently apply what they have learned at the workplace.
